ORANGE DAY

COLLEGE PREP 9

Class was in the library today, finishing orientation activities....vocabulary homework was collected....please make sure to bring these words for Friday.....

HONORS 12

1. Ms Wadsworth took the class for most of the time, since I was out chaperoning a college trip...but before I left, we took a quiz on part 3 of the story AND I assigned the paper (test for BEOWULF) which will be due next Tuesday. The paper topic is as follows:

Beowulf, written down for the 'common people' of that era, provided more or less a commentary on how to live and how to behave. It was, essentially, a benchmark of morality--and how to live a proper and moral life. Other than the Bible, BEOWULF was where people looked for guidance in a 'sin filled world.'

For this assignment, I would like you to explore the idea of a present day Beowulf scenario. In our 'sin filled' and 'immoral' world, where do WE go to find morality and lessons on how to live? Where do we find examples of how to live a 'proper' life? What is OUR Beowulf? Please remember: Beowulf was considered a SECULAR (not affiliated with the church) work; therefore, I would like you to focus your answer, also, on a secular example. Be as specific in your argument as you can!!

2. Be prepared, also, to deliver your presentations next time!

COLLEGE PREP 12

1. Ms Wadsworth was your 'sub' today, as I was on a college trip. You were to read the ARABY story and answer the study question at the end.....you were also to work on your information maps for literary devices....next time, we will do a review on our lit devices in class, since you will be having a test next week!!!!

**tomorrow's sub plans for Black Day**

NOTE: If you had me today ((orange day...the day I am posting this) please look at my PREVIOUS blog post for your specific classes. THIS post is for my black day students that I would see tomorrow. I will be out and Mr Merrill will be your sub. Below are the plans left for him...I am posting so you can see the assignment as well. Thanks and have a great Friday!!
********

BLOCK 1: ENGLISH 12: This small class was working in the library during the last class on a HAMLET 'diagnosis' project. They should have the assignment. Would you please remind them that their projects are due next Tuesday? I would like you to give them the first 20 minutes to work on their projects/go to the library if they need to. After that 20 minutes is over, would you please have them start watching the film of HAMLET beginning at the end of Act 4. The DVD is on top of the DVD player, and one of the kids can help you....also, one of the kids can 'cue' the film where we left off—right at the funeral of Ophelia. They should watch as much of the film as they can. If you dont finish it, all the better, since then I can talk them through it next time!!

BLOCK 2: HONORS: This class is reading THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO. For today, they needed to read through chapter 54. Would you please distribute the study guide on my desk to them? The study guide covers chapters 51 through 57....but they should only answer the questions for chapters 51, 52, 53, and 54! Would you please remind them their papers (assigned last class) will be due next TUESDAY? With the remaining time after doing the study guide, they can begin tonight's reading assignment, which is to read chapters 55 through chapter 60.

COLLEGE PREP: Please follow the same plan as for block 1, as they are doing essentially the same thing. The only difference is this: They have a 'Hamlet Mood' paper due next Thursday, and, as they watch the film, they should pay special attention to information that will help them provide good examples in their paper. Would you please remind them that their projects are due to be presented on Tuesday? Thanks!!
