1 Paragraph writing
-go over coherence worksheet and outline worksheet
-assign in class essay : "Write a letter to the boss of your dream job, explaining why you should have this job.. What are your qualities and characteristics that make you the obvious choice to be selected for the job? Use at least five underlines transition words in this response. Use clear topic sentences like we have been using"

-go over 3.3, paying close attention to the soliloquy of Claudius
-begin Act 3 of film...this wasnt an awkward or uncomfortable experience at all......

-begin with some background info on Shakespeare
-NOTE: you will not need your computers AT ALL for this unit. So, perhaps, dont even bring them....haha
-consider buying your own book!!! It will help you!!!!!

-go over 3.2 by means of the quiz AND by reading certain sections of the play...
-discuss the play within the play within the context of A Clockwork ORange/funny Goldsmith cancer stories
-"moods" paper assigned...this is due next TUESDAY....choose/assign a mood to Hamlet...you must allude (this means QUOTE) the play at least three times in this paper...be very detailed in your writing

-be prepared for test next class which will consist of identifying difference between linking and action verbs AND identifying adjectives and the words they modify
-use linking verbs in sentences along with adjective phrases...
-be sure to MEMORIZE the list of twelve linking verbs I gave you!
3. New bathroom policy starts on Thursday!! YAY!!!!!!!! FUNNN!!! BATHROOM!!!!!

-"back to back" activity focusing on direction giving, coherence, and clear language
-I collected the paragraphs that were due today (directions on how to do something you know well)...make sure you get them to me today if you didnt already

-finish Act 2 of the film--do notes
-test-SAW for one of the four lines I give you to analyze from 3.1
-overall discussion of 3.1 with notes
-we began 3.2 together....your job is to read through the rest of scene 2 for Wednesday...please make sure you have a good understanding of what is going on!

Happy Friday on this lovely midsumer day. Mr Goldsmith HATES sunny and warm weather. He is depressed over it. Anyway, here is what we did or whatever....

HONORS
1. Same as black (but you knew that). Please be sure to read 3.1 so you can kick butt on the SAW quiz on Tuesday....also, take advantage of the special offer to get a hundred on a quiz if you recite ten lines. Okay? Thank.

COLLEGE PREP FRESHMEN
1. You all make me so happy
2. Grammar
-go over p 19 exercises
-p36 review ex b and exercise 24 (24 is tough....and it helps you become a better writer....really work on understanding this one!!)
-collect response that was due today...if you are using tech day, I must have it on MONDAY
-work on memorizing that list of linking verbs for a test next THURSDAY
-due Tuesday: "Write a one page response on anything you want....you must include TEN underlined adjectives and FIVE circled adjective phrases/appositives!
3. Romeo and Juliet: Consider buying your own copy....this way you can write in it, etc. Fun!!!

-worksheet on enumerative paragraph....putting details in logical order
-technical writing...good direction giving in our writing, etc (worksheet)
-practice paragraph --enumerative paragraph with three supporting details needed
-for next time, write a good enumerative paragraph (half page minimum) where you give directions on something you know how to do well....

HONORS

-go over Jepethah quote
-discuss 2.2 soliloquy via the SAWs you did
-REMEMBER: Monday is "soliloquy" performance day...if you want to earn the extra bonus test grade....(ten lines at least)
-begin film of Act 2...take notes as we go...REMEMBER: the director has put some of Act 3 into the Act 2 film...make the distinction and take adequate notes
-we didnt finish the film of Act 2...we will on Monday
-for next time, read 3.1 and make sure you understand it...we will have a test on Monday where I give you four lines (you pick ONE) and write a SAW on it....

-test your adj and noun knowledge with mad libs
-notes on linking verbs, and the differences between them and action verbs
-list of linking verbs: you should MEMORIZE these!
-ex 2 on page 19
-writing for next time: Using 5 adjectives (circle them) 1 adjective phrase (rectangle) 3 linking verbs (underline) and have this be one page minimum! "no one cares anymore about...." and fill in the rest yourself!!

-teach SAWs (Shakespeare Analysis Webs)
-discuss rest of 2.2 (the players, etc)
-your job for next time is simply to read the final soliloquy of Act 2.....be sure you know it and understand it
-You must do a SAW for either a line in that soliloquy OR the "Oh Jepethah" line earlier....

-review words by creating a word for each of the Greek root prefixes and THEN crafting that word into a sentence THAT ALSO contains an adjective clause!

-review adjective clauses by going over homework-original sentences!
-white grammar books (dealing with nouns, pronouns, adj clauses) p 111, ex 2 and 112 ex 5...these were gone over in class
-you should finish for Monday: p 5 ex 2 and p 9 ex 4

1 Vocab-root words and prefixes
-first of all, know that there is a quiz on Thursday....you will need to put the OWL words in sentences. You will need to know the root and prefix definitions. YOu will need to come up with one word/definition for each of the root words
-we found examples/looked for images of each of the words....this was a graded class work assignment
-class wide playing of "funbrain.com" root word game for review
-discussion of drugs and brand name products that USE these subliminal prefixes, etc

HONORS
1. Hamlet
-discussion of Iambic Pentameter as it relates to the way SHakespeare ends the Acts in HAMLET...know how the meter works and why it is significant
-view and analyze Act 1 of film...take good notes on the redeeming cinematic features of the film
-focus on the line "a custom more honored in the breach than in the observance"
-there will be the Act I test on THURSDAY....for this you will be asked to match characters and answer some short answer questions on Act I

-review notes for adjectives
-review notes on nouns as adjectives
-notes on adjective clauses (otherwise known as appositives)
-give examples on board
-YOUR job for homework is to create ten original sentences that use adjective clauses correctly (remember: adjective clauses begin with relative pronouns like who, which, whose, that, etc.) BE FUNNY!!!!
-next class we will do lots of exercises out of the books to put all the notes we have taken into practice!!

1. Finish film....this took the entirety of the class due to the senior meeting on project grad...

-you were to read scene 2, and we went over the scene in the context of the worksheet study guide
-we also took other notes on soliloquy, etc
-REMEMBER, I am offering you a unique opportunity to memorize and recite at least 15 lines from a soliloquy or speech from the play....and earn a bonus test grade!!
-read 1.3 in class with each other....work together on fun line translations
-we began to go over this, but did not finish, and we will thus finish on Friday
-FOR FRIDAY, expect a quiz on intro notes THROUGH scene 4....this means you should read scene 4 for Friday....

-to keep you on task with the other class.....AND because we had a severely shortened class due to the Winter Carnival Chaos, we simply finished notes on characters/vocab/idioms on the play...we did not start the reading....we did not discuss thematic elements....there is no reading for HW
-I will have your papers to pass byack for you on Tuesday....come see me before then if you want to know my grade

1. Little Tree: continue with film......we had a shortened class due to the WInter Carnival Assembly
2. KEEP STUDYING your vocab....this test will creep up faster than you realize
