BLACK DAY

COLLEGE PREP

1. Literary Terms
a. review all definitions/go over any confusion
b. MAKE SURE TO HAVE ALL DEFINITIONS...we will have a quiz soon
c. create information maps (participation grade) for specific literary devices
d. I will pass these back next time, and we will go over examples....


ENGLISH 12

1. Vocabulary
-new words--homonyms (compliment/compliment, there/their/they're, etc)
2. HEROES
-read together in class through top of page 26...we will continue next time with this

HONORS

1. BEOWULF
-test on history and two sections
-notes and discussion on cultural/national heroes and the lessons they 'teach' us....
-brief discussion and notes of 'conventions' of superhero stories....
-assign 'hero presentation' which will be presented on Tuesday: "Compare or contrast the character of Beowulf with a 'modern day superhero' of your choice. You may work with one other person on this, and you must explain to the class how Beowulf and your hero share/differ regarding some of the conventions of hero stories. You may use the ones we discussed in class, or you may do your own research to uncover other elements and stereotypes and conventions of hero stories"
-please be sure to read the final section "Death of Beowulf" for next time...
