ENGLISH 12

-for today's new list, you were asked to write down the words and look them up yourself, using the built in dictionaries on the macbooks....afterwards, we went over the words to make sure everyone had the correct definition!

-surprise (not really) quiz on the reading you were supposed to do....3.1 and 3.2
-go over these scenes via the quiz...take good notes
-go over paper...this is due on TUESDAY....remember the focus correction areas are to use at least FOUR underlined vocab words....and you must use THREE underlined adjective phrases...
-view act 2 of film!

1. "Cell Phone" story activity, with hyphenated modifier, hyperbole, simile
2. Hamlet
-be sure to understand the TO BE OR NOT TO BE soliloquy...I tried to explain it, but we saw how that went....
-writing prompt in class: Have you seen others (or yourself) singled out and judged, much in the same way Claudius and Polonius are singling out Hamlet in order to get him in trouble? Explain your story or example. You must use two of the following in your writing: hyphenated modifier, simile, hyperbole

-roots, definitions, examples, connections
-work in class "rooting" out words (game) and finding other examples of these rootwords...make sure that, for each root, you find your own example word so on Monday we may go over them....

-surprise quiz on Act 2--you had MORE than enough time to read this (and lots of reminders too....tsk tsk)
-song projects to be presented (oh wait....all three of you didnt do it....)
-go over list of similes and metaphors....go over quiz....go over act 2 and idea of language as power
-assign paper which is due next TUESDAY
-finish 3.1 AND read 3.2 for Friday....always expect a quiz

ALL CLASSES PLEASE READ!!!

ORANGE DAY CLASSES:

Particularly freshmen classes!!! BE SURE to prepare for your vocabulary test, which will be on MONDAY. Also, be sure you have finished reading Act II of R&J (you were supposed to do this with the sub yesterday). We will finish the film of Act I on Monday after vacation. I WILL NOT be singing on Monday. I WILL sing, soon, but NOT MONDAY. (so dont act all indignant..haha) ALSO, look up the word "indignant"

HONORS ORANGE: Dont forget to give me your papers on the Monday we get back (if you didnt already). ALSO, your presentations are to be READY to go on Monday.

1. Vocab list--this test will be next Wednesday--it is on Shakespearean words you should know for when we start HAMLET

-begin with some Shakespeare notes--explore his world!

-hear examples of papers, which were collected today (the papers, not the examples...haha)
-go over Act 4 scene 1, 2, 3 with notes and discussion (note: the reading of the play is, at this point, done!)
-explain final test which we will have at the end...this will encapsulate all the notetaking you've been doing on the film, play, etc...
-Begin appearance vs reality conflict discussion with "psycho" response, MC Escher, etc...this A/R conflict will be the topic of your final essay for HAMLET
-your homework for next time is to please jot down notes on how YOU see A/R existing in Act I or II of the play...where do we see this conflict? How are things not what they seem? Etc??
