ORANGE DAY

HONORS ENGLISH
1. Beowulf
-quickly go over part 3 of story...discuss....take mock quiz as a class
-epic hero conventions matrix....do in pairs...discuss as class
-your test is going to be on Tuesday!!!
-with your partner, prepare a two minute presentation....compare or contrast Beowulf with a modern day hero of your choice.....use the conventions of epic hero to help you!

-share irony paragraphs!
-start information map of lit terms in class....finish this for next time....it will be collected for a grade

BLACK DAY

1. Beowulf
-finished taking notes on history of Beowulf, ANglo Saxons, etc. ALWAYS bring your notes as you can use them on some quizzes!
-we began reading section 1 (battle with Grendel) together....you were to finish it on your own. You were to take notes on the evilness/description of Grendel AND the fight....how Beowulf is victorious....what he does...etc. Remember....take good notes and do well on tests!!!

Honors
1. See Orange day....your test will be next WEDNESDAY for Beowulf....paper due date is still being figured out:)

-study for vocab test for FRIDAY

-finish rest of notes (we started today with irony)
-write a paragraph where you create an original ironic (or dramatic irony) situation....

-quiz on section 2
-lecture/discussion on second section...in combination with 'arrogance' notes you took for homework as you read
-begin notes on 'conventions of epic hero genre'
-read the final section of Beowulf tonight....be thinking about ideas for a paper to be written about "a modern day moral guide".....we will discuss this more next time!

1. New vocab words for test Friday
2. For next class, put all your new words in SENTENCES...this will be collected for a participation grade
3. Continue with Literary Terms notes...we will finish the rest on Wednesday, which is also an early release day....

-go over prologue...discuss awkward religious undertones
-groupwork on section 1: discuss references to religion, greatness of Beowulf, nervousness of men, evilness of Grendel
-four corners activity: Do you need to be arrogant to be successful??
-for next time: read BATTLE WITH GRENDEL'S MOTHER and take notes on evidence of B's arrogance....

2. Split Cherry Tree
-go over Venn diagrams where you compare and contrast the characters
-what happens to make the dad like the teacher?
-discuss as class: Was life more difficult for your parents than it is for you? Why?

-begin list....we only got to symbolism (the first one) and we will finish them on Monday!

-Research a 'modern hero' in terms of superpowers, arch enemy, fatal flaw-way they can be killed

2. Study Skills
-all skills...Venn diagram, mind map, info map with examples!
-practice these skills with 'restaurant' examples
3. Split Cherry Tree
-discuss this story with study skills in mind
-Do a Venn Diagram for homework: The similarities and differences between the father and the teacher....this will be collected!
-we will finish next time with the story

ENGLISH 12
1. Vocabulary: Finish defining all the words....THEN, do the "study chart" I put on the board...for each word, provide a sentence, synonym, antonym, and 'picture.' I checked this off for a participation grade..
2. SCAR for today was listening skills with "whodunits"

HONORS ENGLISH
1. Trying to keep you on track with the orange day class...today in class we defined the rest of the vocab words and got that done....the test will be on FRIDAY of this week....then, we transitioned over to some really awesome Anglo Saxon literature stuff....brief discussion and then read a few pages on the historical ramifications of the Anglo Saxons....no reading assignment tonight (enjoy it)....but we will begin all things Beowulf on Wed.....for next time, please research a "hero" of your choice...be able to share their super powers, their arch enemy, and their fatal flaw....

HONORS ENGLISH
1. Guidance came to class today....they took the whole period talking about college admission/graduation/FAFSA/applying/other important stuff!
2. I will be out on Friday of this week....your sub (the lovely Ms Albert) will instruct you as to what you will do on Friday.
3. Due to guidance being in and me being out, we will now have the vocab test next THURSDAY instead of Tuesday.....also, when I am back on Tuesday for class, we will review vocab, start Beowulf, etc....

CP 9
1. Vocabulary
-finish words..... because I will be out this Friday, the test will now be on TUESDAY!!!!!....make sure you study!
-we spent some time making "strategy charts" involving syn, ant, pictures, etc....use these to study for your test!
2. On Friday, I will be out.....Ms Albert, your sub, will instruct you on the story you are to read!

-share a couple...discuss...

-begin with discussion of connontation vs denotion...examples...
-bring in TWO or so examples for next class
-begin new list--we did the first half and will finish on Wed...this test is next TUESDAY
