Orange Day

COLLEGE PREP
**if you missed class today, you missed a lot of stuff....make sure to SEE ME for questions**

1. Hamlet: we took a quiz on the reading that was assigned to be done today....we discussed the answers to this quiz, and in the process went over the rest of the reading material...we were taught how to create "Dramatic Situation" webs in order to respond to individual lines in Hamlet....we read in class up through the end of the conversation between Hamlet, Rosencrantz, and Guildenstern in 2.2...there is no reading assignment for Tuesday, but there was the assignment to create TWO dramatic situation "webs" based on the list I gave you (you should have copied these off the board). Remember: you can pick from the four top ones I gave you, but ALL must do number five...see me if you have any questions.....
2. Again, if you were absent, you have a lot to do to make up work....copy the notes from a classmate, and make sure you are where you need to be in terms of the reading (act 2 sc 2 up to where Rosencrantz and Guildenstern finish their conversation with Hamlet....

HONORS

1. Monte Cristo: We did a writing prompt "What is most important to you: Money, Power, Time, or Humanity?" 15 minutes was given to complete this prompt....we will later use it to analyze the character of the Count....we shared some responses....we worked as groups to complete study guide questions from chapter 16 THROUGH 20 (you were to be through chapter 20 for today)...you should be sure to address all the questions on your own, but there was a heavy emphasis on Msr Morell's "situation," and the role suicide played....be sure to copy the notes if you were not here....as an HONORS class, you should know all the points and questions raised on the study guide EVEN IF we do not directly go over them in class....as always, see me or leave a comment on this blog if you have questions (you can do so anonymously too if you want)...the reading assignment is to read chapters 21, 22, and 23

ENGLISH 12

1. New vocab words-we will use these next week, so bring them
2. 15 minute writing prompt "How are rumors, lies, and secrets harmful to people your age in YOUR time? Use two of our new vocab words when answering these questions"
3. Hamlet: We read 2.1 as a class...Kati and Jordan were brilliant in acting out this scene...we discussed POlonius and his motivation to want to banish Hamlet to England
**Be sure to print out the in class essay and bring it to me for next class**

Orange Day

WELCOME TO QUARTER 3.....YOU ARE ALMOST THERE!!!!

College Prep
1) 60 Minutes: "Football Island" A good way to start off the quarter. Let's get inspired to work hard!
2. Hamlet: We have been away from Hamlet for a while....we did a "mock" test on Act I, in order to see what people remembered AND so everyone could get on the same "page." This, in turn, became your notes. We then used the lovely acting talents of BK and Lee in order to act out Act 2 Scent 1 (100s on participation for both of these great sports!!)....your assignment is to read in Act 2.2 UNTIL Hamlet enters the scene (dont read past this). ALSO, feel free to skip the section involving "Voltimand" speaking.

Honors English
1) 60 Minutes: "Football Island" It is all about your heart!
2)Monte Cristo: There was NO reading assignment due today...we viewed a power point/took notes on CHRIST IMAGERY apparent in the novel...the reading assignment for Friday involves reading chapter 17 THROUGH 20....we will most likely do some in-class writing on Friday....

English 12
1) 60 Minutes: "Football Island" Proving that the blockage of Facebook isnt that bad after all...
2) Hamlet: We've been away for a while! We need to catch up! In order to do this, we did a review of Act I by doing the "mock" test as a class....then we went over this, using the film (once again, as SO MANY people were absent when we watched it) as our guide. At this point, we are DONE with Act I. If you are lacking notes, GET THEM or you will fall behind. COME TO SCHOOL. LOTS OF ABSENCES lately. These are going to hurt people. We start Act 2 (and do writing) on Friday

MIDTERM WEEK #1

(Check the blog this week for any hints or tips or questions you may have about your midterm exam coming up!)

None of my classes have midyear exams today. Tomorrow, COLLEGE PREP has their exam during block 1. You should really prepare for this by studying:

  • the three vocabulary word lists I singled out
  • YOUR NOTES regarding the short stories (know the literary terms....look at the NOTES we took....if you actually want a hard copy of the short story, come and see me!)
  • the "Hamlet" stuff we've done so far....know things like puns, soliloquies, etc.
  • the literary term definitions we've been using all year....you will definitely have to apply them to works we have read thus far

IF you have any questions or problems, please come see me!! I will be in my room....even if it is during a regular class, come on by....your question is important

If you need the three quotes I put on the board again, come see me ASAP. Dont forget the Focus Areas for this response are: 1) Introduction 2) Alternating Sentence Beginnings. If you dont remember what I mean by these, go check your notes. We have gone over these before.

Honors English: Read THROUGH chapter 11 for tomorrow. Dont worry if you are confused by Chapter 11....I will explain it when I see you. Make sure you read!

English 12: Start studying for your midterms! We will begin reading Hamlet tomorrow (we were missing a lot of folks yesterday). We took all appropriate notes...make sure you have your notes!

ATTENTION ALL CLASSES

First of all, welcome back to school! Yeay! You will notice that there were not any posts leading up to vacation.....no classes had anything "due" today (or Tuesday, if that is when I see you again).

HOWEVER.......several of you were absent on the Thursday or Friday before vacation. If you were, remember the policy on missed work. So, if your absence was excused, get your work in to me ASAP! Particularly, many of you in my English 12 class (block 4 on orange days) were absent on Thursday....and there was your college essay/personal narrative due. If it is an excused absence, then I will accept your essay tomorrow. But no later than that.

All classes will be starting something new today or tomorrow....either "Hamlet" or The Count of Monte Cristo.
