ORANGE DAY

HONORS ENGLISH
1. Vocab test
2. College Essay
-sentence variety discussion and workshopping
-your free choice essay will be due either next THURSDAY or at the latest by the following Monday...we will be done with the unit by then.....remember the focus areas of lead, voice, and AT LEAST four underlined instances of sentence variety!
3. We have a guest speaker on Tuesday....

1. VOcab test
2. The MOnkey's Paw
-discussion of story and, in particular, irony and foreshadow...
2. Edgar Allan Poe
-begin notes on Poe--these were not collected today, but they WILL BE on Tuesday after we finish...they count as a participation grade
-no homework or reading over the weekend...we will continue with Poe, his stories, documentary, etc on Tuesday....

-view dramatization of "Cask of Amontillado"
-discuss symbolism of FOrtunado's name....how he "kills" himself....Poe's perception of people as evil...etc

HONORS
1. Same as Orange day....you folks will have a guest speaker on Monday, so therefore your COLLEGE ESSAY VOCAB TESTS will be on Wednesday....

-"Dark and Stormy" lead contest: share some funny examples!
-Mr Goldsmith reads his "Outfits" piece
-read and discuss "nonfiction article writing" piece from English Journal
2. Vocabulary test will be on FRIDAY, so study for it

1. Short story quiz
2. "The Monkey's Paw"
-begin reading story in class....take notes as we go....finish for homework.....make sure to focus and take notes on how IRONY and FORESHADOW is used

- there will be a test on the lit terms on THURSDAY....you CANNOT use notes on this, so study well
2. Edgar Allan Poe
-to begin this short unit of his short stories, we began watching a documentary on his life, inspirations, style, stories, etc...we will continue this for a bit next time....

HONORS
1. Same as Orange day....please be sure to be prepared for your college essay vocab quiz for next WEDNESDAY (on Monday we have a guest speaker, even)

ORANGE DAY

HONORS ENGLISH
1. Vocabulary: College essay words-to-know in order to avoid cliches!
2. College Essay
-explain shoes and socks feedback...
-discuss importance of leads containing stories, dialogue, anecdotes, powerful statements, etc
-trade papers...give each other feedback....rewrite the lead sentence of your partner's paper THREE times....change up their lead...make it more exciting
-we will continue with "clothes" and leads on Wednesday....

CP ENGLISH 9
1. Vocabulary-Edgar Allan Poe words for test THIS FRIDAY
2. "Deathless"
-read this play as a class (great job by the way!)
-discuss the ironic ending
-begin discussing the theme "be careful what you wish for!"
3. On Wednesday, there will be a quiz on the following short stories: Split Cherry Tree, Lady or the Tiger, Walter Mitty, Gift of the Magi, Deathless

1. Same as Orange.....but your "clothes essay" is due on Tuesday.....REMEMBER, you are graded SOLELY on how you convey VOICE in your description of what your clothing says about you as an individual.....let your personality shine in this.....
