ORANGE DAY

COLLEGE PREP
1. HAMLET
-go over 2.2 ending soliloquy with key points ('unpack my heart with words'....'pigeon livered,' etc...)
-discussion as a class on Psychological Association and the influence it has in this play...particularly with Hamlet's decision to have the actors decide to perform a certain 'play'
-begin Act 2 of the film...we will finish this on Tuesday.....
-The CLOSED NOTE/CLOSED BOOK test on Act 2 will be next THURSDAY (quote IDs, terms, etc)

HONORS
1. Monte Cristo
-do 'mock quiz' as a class
-discuss ramifications of 'the letter'
-make sense of the first 6 chapters....summarize chapter 7 and 8.....taking notes!
-YOUR job is to read 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 (please feel free to skip ch 11....or, read it, but dont worry if it confuses you....it centers around the priest and his treasure map....)
-always expect a quiz

ORANGE DAY

COLLEGE PREP
1. Hamlet
-quiz on the reading you were supposed to do for today: Write a paragraph explaining the tone/mood of Hamlet's conversation with Rosencrantz and Guildenstern....
-hear responses...read part of the scene in 'regular English' so as to get the 'nuances.' (HAHA!)
-class work session: Work on completing "Hamlet's Thoughts On..." sheet....go over responses...HOLD ON to this sheet as it will be reflected on our next test for Act 2
-begin the final soliloquy of Act 2....there is no reading for next class
-next time, we will discuss psychological association AND then watch the film....

HONORS
1. Monte Cristo
-Karma, thematic elements discussion
-hang out books
-begin reading aloud and discussing key points...finish the assignment for next time....read through chapter 6
-remember to know all the 'stuff' I wrote on the board about 'the letter'
2. Papers
-pass back...good job
-HOWEVER, address concerns with OWLS, correct dash and colon usage, and assumptions/generalizations!

1. View Act 1 of film....."read" the film by stopping and taking notes on key points
2. On Thursday we will have an open note matching quiz....it will be on characters and quotes, etc

1. Trying to get back up to speed with orange day...we are very behind!!
2. Paper due on Thursday....we went over sentence variety and how to incorporate semicolons, colons, dashes into sentences....be sure to use SOME combination of these tactics at least four times in your paper
3. Begin notes on THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO

ORANGE DAY

-Act 2.1--treated to an outstanding acting performance by Ryan and Greg!!
-Act 2.2-we read/took notes together up until they decide to spy on Hamlet ("At such a time I'll loose my daughter on him.")
-your reading assignment is to continue on in 2.2 reading from there to when Polonius enters the scene again (he says "Well be with you gentlemen..."). When you get here, stop. .
-NOTE: If you are merely SKIMMING this, you will not be prepared for class. You really need to spend some time looking at the footnotes, etc....checking NoFear....sparksNotes, etc

HONORS
1. You folks are STILL ahead of the BlackDay class....we havent had a black day since 1996.
2. Many were missing for college visits today
3. However..........life goes on and we started THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO
-we did not distribute books....there was no reading....
-buttttttt.....we did take notes on the historical background, etc....if you were out, please copy the notes from someone when you get back!

-bring your BEOWULF book if you havent given it to me!

3. Due to your class being way ahead of the black day class (snow day, early release, etc) we did NOT start Monte Cristo...we will do this next time. Therefore, your only assignment is the Beowulf paper due on Monday. Thanks!

-paper on 'Appearance Reality' due....if you are using a tech day, I need it by next class
-discussion on conversation in 1.3 between Opelia and Polonius....his 'fatherly advice,' etc
-READ the film of Act I (I explained how we READ the film....and how we dont merely WATCH it...you should always take notes on the film....it is fair game for the tests!
-we will finish the last 7 minutes of Act 1 on Wednesday....
-Matching test on Act I on WED.....you may use your notes if you bring them

Honors
1. Beowulf
-give 'hero comparison' presentations
-assign Beowulf final paper topic and discuss questions
2. Grammar/Sentence Fluency
-go over semicolons, colons, dashes as ways to 'texturize' sentences
-worksheet on run-on and awkward sentences
-bring the sheet next time so we may go over it
-you need to be sure to integrate AT LEAST FOUR underlined sentences in your paper that show evidence of the sentence fluency we went over today (any combination is fine)
