-sentence variety discussion and workshopping
-your free choice essay will be due either next THURSDAY or at the latest by the following Monday...we will be done with the unit by then.....remember the focus areas of lead, voice, and AT LEAST four underlined instances of sentence variety!
3. We have a guest speaker on Tuesday....

-discussion of story and, in particular, irony and foreshadow...
2. Edgar Allan Poe
-begin notes on Poe--these were not collected today, but they WILL BE on Tuesday after we finish...they count as a participation grade
-no homework or reading over the weekend...we will continue with Poe, his stories, documentary, etc on Tuesday....

1. Vocabulary: College essay words-to-know in order to avoid cliches!
2. College Essay
-explain shoes and socks feedback...
-discuss importance of leads containing stories, dialogue, anecdotes, powerful statements, etc
-trade papers...give each other feedback....rewrite the lead sentence of your partner's paper THREE times....change up their lead...make it more exciting
-we will continue with "clothes" and leads on Wednesday....

CP ENGLISH 9
1. Vocabulary-Edgar Allan Poe words for test THIS FRIDAY
2. "Deathless"
-read this play as a class (great job by the way!)
-discuss the ironic ending
-begin discussing the theme "be careful what you wish for!"
3. On Wednesday, there will be a quiz on the following short stories: Split Cherry Tree, Lady or the Tiger, Walter Mitty, Gift of the Magi, Deathless

-25 questions group activity...interview each other for two minutes....share with the class the unique things you have noticed about each other....how is voice achieved through this?
-"collection" activity where you list off superlatives...what do you like/dislike? authority on? etc...
-next class, we will be doing a constructed participation response...working voice into our stuff...your first essay will be due next MONDAY (this will be the prompt that I will assign to you)

COLLEGE PREP 9
1. Library Orientation with Mrs Lucas....REMEMBER, the work you do counts as a TEST grade....and you are also graded on PARTICIPATION!!

-finish epic hero notes
-begin work in class on comparing your hero to the epic conventions we talked about. The paper topic that is due on Wednesday is as follows: Research a modern day epic hero of your choice and explain how they fit at least three of the 'rules,' 'conventions,' or stereotypes we discussed class. Ideally, you should have a good intro, and three body paragraphs. Each one of your body paragraphs should explain one clear reason why they are truly an epic hero
